When it comes to making lifestyle changes, we tend to love taking things to the extreme.
“I’m going to work out for an hour every day, eliminate gluten, dairy, sugar, coffee, and intermittent fast for 16 hours – Starting tomorrow!”
As if it’s not already challenging enough to try to implement even one of these changes independent of the rest, we often try to do them all at once in a way that almost guarantees failure.
However, would you like to know what’s better than trying to go from not working out at all to working out seven days a week for an hour every day in an attempt to achieve your health and fitness goals?
Actually working out for Ten Minutes each day.
Ten Minutes? How is that going to provide the stimulus needed to make the changes you are looking for?
I’ll tell you how.
By building the habit of showing up and creating a Lifestyle of integrating movement into your daily routine.
Enter the Never Do Nothing Mentality.
We’ve already discussed the concept that If Something Is Important To You – Do It Every Day.
Now we’re going to explain why adopting a Never Do Nothing Mentality is so important to achieving your goals.
When life gets busy and you have to deal with things that originally didn’t end up in your pre-planned schedule, you need to learn to adapt. Quickly.
Just because you can’t make it to the gym to complete your 60 minute workout that you had planned for the evening after work, doesn’t mean that you just forego the entire day from exercise and eliminate the only time period you had planned for physical activity.
You simply adjust as needed, and make the most that you can with what you have.
Here’s how it looks. Your boss asked you to stay over 30 minutes at work because something urgent needed to be addressed. Since you got out late, traffic was a lot slower tonight leaving the office, and you’re getting hungry because it’s closer and closer to dinnertime.
Your original hour planned for exercise at the gym is now down to just 20 minutes. You ask yourself if it’s even worth going at this point. Why bother?
I’ll tell you why.
Because you don’t have to complete a full 60 minute workout today to make today a success.
Now, your goal for today is to simply Keep The Habit Alive.
By spending that 20 minutes investing into your Physical Fitness, you’ve just voted for the type of person that you want to be.
The kind of person that makes the most that they can out of every opportunity and situation they are presented with.
The kind of person that actually makes sustainable progress towards their goals, because they have made working toward them a part of their Daily Lifestyle.
The kind of person that defines Winning as Showing Up – over and over and over again – regardless of what life throws their way.
That is the power of the Never Do Nothing Mentality.
Always Something.
Never Nothing.
It’s So Simple.
And that’s Why It Works.
So when life happens, and things don’t go your way, you need to have a plan.
For the days that you don’t “Feel Like It” you need to have a go-to-workout that you can perform with minimal equipment on short notice that Keeps The Habit Alive. Maybe that looks like 10 minutes of bodyweight exercises you can do from the comfort of your own home followed by some simple stretches. What’s important is that you can do it anytime, anywhere – to eliminate the possibility of any excuses. Even if you don’t feel like it…
For the days that you can’t complete your full workout routine, you need to have a plan that is adaptable to do what you can with what you have. Whether it’s simply cutting the number of sets performed or exercises included for the day, have a plan in place so you can adjust as needed along the way.
When you make this simple shift in your Mindset – and as a result, Lifestyle – you’ll be laying the groundwork every single day for future success by focusing on the things that you do have control over.
And with that kind of consistency, it’s just a matter of time until you reap the rewards.
